How to Install a Wooden Playhouse: Step-by-Step Guide
July 08, 2026
Installing your child’s playhouse is an exciting part of the journey. With a little preparation beforehand, the assembly process will be easier, safer, and more enjoyable. This guide explains the basic installation steps based on our experience with both fully assembled panel playhouses and DIY kits.
Whether you’ve chosen one of our OutDoor Collection playhouses or a DIY Kit, the following guidelines will help you get started.
1. Unpacking Your Playhouse
Every playhouse is carefully packed to protect the components during transportation. As shipping conditions may vary, unpack the package carefully.
Large wall panels are secured to the pallet with visible screws around the edges to keep them stable during transport.
Tip: Remove only the screws from the panel you are ready to lift. This helps prevent the remaining panels from shifting or falling unexpectedly. Since some panels are quite heavy, we recommend that at least two people carry out the installation.

2. Preparing the Foundation
A solid and level foundation is the key to an easy installation. In fact, this is one of the most important parts of the entire project, as properly aligned floor sections make assembling the walls and roof much easier.
Take your time to ensure the foundation is level and perfectly square before moving on. Spending extra time here will save you from alignment issues later.
- OutDoor Collection playhouses usually include the floor in one or two pre-assembled sections.
- DIY Playhouse Kits require the floor frame to be assembled from beams and floorboards. Make sure the frame forms a perfect rectangle by checking that both diagonals are equal.
For DIY models, we recommend covering the finished floor with builder’s paper before continuing. This protects the untreated wood from dirt and mud during installation. It’s also a good idea for all playhouse models if you’d like to keep the floor clean throughout the assembly process.

3. Installing the Wall Panels
With OutDoor Collection playhouses, begin by joining the wall panels together to create a stable structure. Once the walls are connected, install the roof panels and then secure the walls to the floor.
If your playhouse includes a loft, ladder or safety railing, place these components inside the playhouse before fitting the roof panels. There is no need to fasten them yet—final fixing is easier once the main structure is complete.
For 8×8 models, leave the wall panels unscrewed at first. Position the triangular gable sections at the top of the side walls before fastening them to the vertical wall panels. Once the triangular sections are attached, connect the wall panels to one another. Following this order makes the upper sections easier to align and install.

4. Installing the Roof Panels
The OutDoor Collection features pre-assembled roof panels that are designed for quick installation. Each panel includes pre-drilled holes with screws already in place to simplify assembly.
Position each roof panel correctly before tightening the screws. As with the wall panels, we recommend working with two people. Most installation steps are quicker, easier, and safer when completed by two or even three people.

5. Tips for DIY Playhouse Kits
If you’ve chosen a DIY Kit with untreated wooden components, we recommend applying primer or paint before assembly whenever possible. Painting flat components is much easier than working on the assembled playhouse.
If you plan to use different colours for trim, flower boxes or window frames, paint these parts before attaching them. Once installed, they become much more difficult to finish neatly.
6. Installing the Terrace and Railings
The terrace and railings are normally installed as the final step.
Check that the playhouse door opens freely over the terrace floor to ensure smooth operation and a neat finish.
A properly aligned terrace not only looks better but also provides comfortable access and long-lasting stability.
